Significant Learning Environment

Our minds play a critical role in our success in learning and in teaching. If we believe in ourselves, we preform better. If we expel the notion of right versus wrong, we learn on a much deeper level. If we refocus on the process of learning and thinking, grades mean less. We can succeed without assigning a grade. In fact, I believe we learn more without assigning grades for product, but rather focusing on the long term goal of consistent learning and revising based on research. My original view of implementing a growth mindset has not changed. I now have specific strategies to use to accomplish this in my practice!

Creating a Culture

Check out my blog to see the significance in creating a certain culture in a classroom. How does culture affect my philosophy about learning and teaching? Can we really do both?

3 Column Table and Understanding by Design

Click to see how my innovation plan can be represented using Fink’s 3 Column table and Wiggins and McTighe’s UbD model. The 3 Column table is more realistic in my current role as a teacher, with it’s flexibility, overall picture of start to finish, and the time it takes to create and implement this model.

What will this do?

Proving the need for the blended model in classrooms today will help me move forward in implementing my innovation idea within my organization. My goal is to facilitate the change in classrooms that prepare our kids for the world in which they will live and succeed. We are charged with ensuring our students are prepared for anything. We are responsible for preparing them for jobs that we are not even aware exist today. By changing the way we expect students to learn, we can ultimately prepare them to become tomorrow’s innovators and successful adults!
